Steph scrimmages; Warriors ‘optimistic’ he’ll play

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry participated in the team’s scrimmage Thursday, marking another benchmark in his return from a left foot strain that has kept him out since March 16.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said both he and Curry are optimistic that the guard will be available for Game 1 of the team’s first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. Curry will be reevaluated Friday before any final decision on his status is made.

In the scrimmage, Curry played three six-minute stretches.

Kerr said Curry is expected to play with a minutes restriction when he returns, although the coach isn’t sure what exactly that limit will look like yet.

“His conditioning looks good,” Kerr said. “I’d be more concerned about timing. Anytime you have an absence, you got to shake off some cobwebs. Just going to take it a day at a time and see how it all goes.”
