COVID inquiry: Matt Hancock says the UK ‘s approach to pandemic planning was ‘completely wrong’

Matt Hancock has criticised the UK’s approach to planning for pandemics as “completely wrong”.

During his evidence, the former Health Secretary said he was “profoundly sorry” for every death caused by COVID-19, and explained the UK’s system was “geared towards how to clear up after a disaster, not prevent it”.

After he finished giving evidence, he approached the public gallery, and attempted to apologise to families who lost loved ones in the pandemic but it backfired with many turning their backs on him.
