Plane carrying 181 people crashes in South Korea after suspected bird strike – almost all feared dead

Passengers are being rescued from the tail of a plane which crashed into a wall at an airport in South Korea after veering off the runway.

The plane was carrying 175 passengers and six crew when it attempted to land at Muan Airport in the southwest of the country.

Firefighters are attempting to rescue 23 passengers who were in the tail section, officials say.

The plane caught fire after its landing gear malfunctioned, they added.

The blaze has now been put out by firefighters.

The Jeju Air flight was flying back from Thailand at the time of the crash.
